It is with great excitement that Barnstable High School announces that Ross Jatkola has been selected as its new Head Football Coach. Coach Jatkola most recently served as the varsity offensive coordinator at Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, CT, where he also coached varsity girls’ basketball and track and field. Jatkola also has served as a history teacher during his two-year stint in Cheshire.

Prior to his time Cheshire, Jatkola was the head varsity football coach at Monomoy Regional High School in 2015 and a varsity assistant at Dennis Yarmouth from 2010-2015 winning a Super Bowl in 2011. He also spent two seasons as an assistant football coach at Salve Regina University in Rhode Island from 2007-2009.

A 2003 graduate of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School, Jatkola was a 2 year starter at tight end at Division 1 SUNY Albany, graduating in 2007 from the University.

Coach Jatkola will be meeting with the returning players in the near future to introduce himself, discuss off season conditioning, and establish goals for the 2018 season.

Officer Sean Gannon, Yarmouth Police Department

Our Barnstable High School Red Raider Family was stunned, horrified and saddened to learn last night of the unexpected death in the line of duty of Yarmouth K-9 Police Officer Sean Gannon.

Officer Sean Gannon died as he lived — with his K-9 partner Nero at his side, protecting the citizens of Barnstable, Yarmouth, and the Cape Cod Community at large.

As we remember Officer Gannon, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, the Yarmouth Police Department, our Cape Cod Community, and all who loved him.

A Police Officer’s Prayer

Lord, I ask for courage~
Courage to face and conquer my own fears …
Courage to take me where others will not go …
I ask for strength~
Strength of body to protect others,
and strength of spirit to lead others …
I ask for dedication~
Dedication to my job, to do it well,
Dedication to my community, to keep it safe …
Give me, Lord, concern for those who trust me,
and compassion for those who need me …
And please, Lord, through it all,
be at my side …
