Red Raiders Set to Tackle Marshfield: Again

It’s playoff time, baby.

In one of the toughest match-ups in the state, Barnstable (6-1) will face the Marshfield High Rams (4-3) for the second time this season on Friday night (November 1) at 6:00 pm at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field in Hyannis.

The Red Raiders need to win two playoff games to reach the Division 2 Super Bowl in December at Gillette Stadium. Down 20-7 at halftime on October 11, Barnstable scored three touchdowns in the second half and in turn shut the visiting Rams down on offense to take a 29-20 victory. Mike Bilodeau, Derek Estes and Hayden Murphy each scored in the second half, with Murphy scoring earlier in the first half, a 58-yard bomb from quarterback Kristian Lucashensky. Justus Chaffee also scored and all totalled, Murphy had three touchdowns on the night !

Marshfield fell to the D-Y Dolphins in a thriller Friday night (Oct. 25), 40-36, while the Red Raiders captured their third straight Old Colony League Championship title, devouring Dartmouth, 41-6.

Nathan Yingling, a senior outside linebacker, was named Maxpreps Defensive Player of the Game for his 11 tackles on the evening ! Kudos also go out to Johnny Hardy for his fumble recovery and Max Lambert for his blocked PAT kick…a tip of the hat to junior defensive lineman Henry O’Shaughnessy for his first-ever varsity sack !

Red Raiders Romp Over Dartmouth, Capture 3rd Straight OCL Championship

Boosted by Hayden Murphy’s 127-yard, three-touchdown performance, the Barnstable High School Red Raiders (6-1) devoured the visiting Dartmouth Indians (3-4), 41-6, last night at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field. Senior quarterback Kristian Lucashensky went 16-20 and 225 yards in the air and two touchdowns, including a 78-yarder to senior wideout Colby Blaze. It was the 10th longest pass play in Barnstable High School football history.

Nathan Yingling led the defense with 11 tackles on the night, including three solo tackles and a sack for a loss of 7 yards. Junior Bo Delaney and senior Justus Chaffee also scored touchdowns for the Red Raiders. Blaze had 83 yards receiving on two catches as well as his touchdown.

It appears that Barnstable will have to face Marshfield once again, still at home, next weekend in the MIAA Div. 2 quarterfinals. Stay tuned for more info.

Red Raiders Stage Stellar Comeback Over Marshfield Rams

Barnstable (4-1) may very well be the best second half team in the state.

Down 20-7 at halftime and appearing to be unable to match Marshfield’s speed and size, the host Red Raiders dug down deep in the second half and once again blanked an opponent when it counted most. Barnstable outscored its guests in the second half, 22-0, and has allowed just one second half touchdown since opening day.

Senior co-captain Hayden Murphy tallied 190 all-purpose yards on the day, 116 of them rushing yards on 12 carries and 74 yards in the air. He scored two touchdowns – one a 40-yard rush late in the 4th quarter to seal the victory and a 58-yard reception in the second quarter that gave his Raiders hope.

Senior quarterback Kristian Lucashensky went 11-25 in the air for 190 yards and three touchdown passes (3 interceptions). Derek Estes and Mike Bilodeau each had touchdown receptions and Dereck Pacheco went 3-3 on PAT kicks. Junior wideout Bo Delaney collected his first-ever varsity two-point conversion on a nifty pass from Lucashensky.

Barnstable’s defense was stellar in the second half in spite of having been on the field for 74 plays throughout the game.

Red Raiders Ready to Host Marshfield Rams

On the heels of a tremendous 35-14 victory over New Bedford on the road last Friday night, the Red Raiders play at home this week versus Marshfield at 6:00 PM and it’s Youth Night. Each year for the past 25 years, the Barnstable High School football team recognizes the Barnstable Silver Bullets at halftime during one of the home games.

The Red Raiders are now 3-1, ranked 4th in the Division 2 MIAA Power Ratings and have climbed up to 9th in the Boston Globe’s top 100 teams poll released earlier this week.

Please come early if you want to avoid the long lines to purchase your ticket and get into the game. We are looking for volunteers to help with the snack bar for halftime and any drink donations. During the game the Best Buddies will have a bake sale. Anyone who can help out with merchandise sales, please see Gayle at the shed.

The time for the JV away game VS Marshfield time has been changed from 12 noon to 2:00 PM (a revise schedule is attached.) The JV bus leaves BHS at 11:45 AM. Freshman play at their original time of 12 noon and their bus leaves BHS at 9:45 AM.
