BHS Gridders Devour Sandwich Blue Knights on the Road, Now 3-0
Barnstable High’s Nick Peabody landed himself in the Red Raider record book last night, while his corps of wide receivers were equally impressive in handing host Sandwich its first loss of 2012, 35-14.
Peabody passed for an all-time second-best 402 yards and the second most completions in a single game with 29 to go along with five touchdowns to pace the Red & White in what can be best characterized as a topsy-turvy, penalty- and turnover-laden affair.
Senior Dylan Morris reeled in three of those touchdown passes while Tedaro France had two scores to go along with 152 yards. Senior James Burke had 10 receptions for 129 yards and Hayden Murphy had three for 41 yards. Senior Terrence Mudie was 5-5 on PAT kicks and had an interception. France and Derek Estes also had interceptions while Ryan Litchman added a fumble recovery.

Red Raiders Hit the Road vs. the Sandwich Blue Knights
Both teams sport undefeated records thus far this 2012 season, but when the dust settles tomorrow night, one of the teams will likely have its first loss.
Barnstable (2-0) heads to Sandwich (2-0) to face the Blue Knights at the Sandwich Pop Warner Field (behind Stop & Shop) – the game will be the visiting Red Raiders’ first on real turf, rather than the artificial turf the team has been accustomed to. Opening kickoff is 7:00 pm.
BHS is riding the wave of back-to-back 50-point plus victories (55-6 over Durfee and 55-14 over D-Y) while Sandwich defeated Bourne 34-12 in its opener and Diman Regional Voke-Tech last week, 20-0.
Red Raiders Romp Royally Over D-Y Dolphins, 55-14
Senior captain and quarterback and captain Nick Peabody went 13-17 passing for 342 yards and threw four touchdowns while senior Dylan Morris caught TD bombs of 98 and 51 yards to pace the BHS Red Raiders to their second consecutive 55-point offensive rout.
The win came this time over the visiting Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins and was finalized at 55-14.

Nick Peabody went 13-17 for 342 yards and threw four touchdown passes to lead the Red & White to a 55-14 victory over Dennis-Yarmouth.
Junior running back Hayden Murphy also scored a pair of touchdowns on the night, while Tedaro France, James Burke, Manny Perry and Kristian Lucashensky added scores. Senior placekicker Terrence Mudie went 7-8 on PAT attempts for the second straight week to just add to the damage.
Peabody’s 342 yards was good enough to tie for third best all-time in a single game and Morris’s 205 yards receiving was good enough to take over second place all-time for a single game, just ahead of Isaiah Voegeli’s 203 yards vs. D-Y four years ago.
Derek Estes picked up his team’s second interception of the year and it was the second straight week that Peabody did not throw one. In just two games, Peabody has thrown for 564 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Other stalwart defensive efforts came from Jason Frieh, Terrence Mudie, Andrew Ellis and Tedaro France. John Hardy made his second straight kickoff return tackle in as many games just to add a little bit of punishment to the Red Raider frenzy.
Friday Night Lights: BHS Hopes to Avenge Last Year’s Loss to D-Y Dolphins
For over 30 years Barnstable dominated Dennis-Yarmouth on the gridiron, until the Dolphins had had enough and the rivalry was scratched from the schedule.
Then in 2006, Coach Spanky Demanche and Paul Funk brought the rivalry back and since that time it has grown to become the game to watch on the Cape while D-Y has fully exorcised its ghosts of the past in the process. Since 2006, D-Y has defeated BHS four times for a 4-2 record versus the Red Raiders, including a one-point victory last season.
BHS hopes to even the score Friday night at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field. D-Y is coming off a bizarre, lightning-shortened game versus Canton, one which the MIAA has apparently ruled will not count in the either team’s standings. Apparently, D-Y fell behind 14-12 before the game was postponed, in spite of local headlines that claimed D-Y had won.
The Red Raiders are coming off a 55-6 rout of B.M.C. Durfee High School on the road. Confident and talented, expect the Red Raiders to pull out all stops.
Regardless, and even with a young sophomore-laden team, expect Funk’s troops to be riled and ready.
But also expect a tough, senior-stocked Red Raider squad to turn things up full bore. It will be a battle.
Barnstable Steamrolls Durfee in Season Opener, France Ties All-Time Record

Tedaro France’s 100-yard touchdown on the game’s opening kickoff was just the second time in Red Raider history that a kick returner ran for a 100-yard touchdown score. 1970 tri-captain Arthur Pacheco of Centerville held the record all alone for 42 years until last night. Pacheco had a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown on October 17, 1970 versus Fairhaven. France scored two touchdowns on the night in Barnstable’s 55-6 thrashing of host Durfee.
The Red Raiders started off the 2012 campaign last night with a 55-6 drubbing of B.M.C. Durfee High School on the road, a game that featured a 95-yard touchdown on a the game’s opening kickoff. Durfee won the coin toss prior to the game’s start and it is likely it regretted that decision as senior Tedaro France took the ball 100 yards for a touchdown.
France scored two touchdowns on the day, as did quarterback Nick Peabody who went 14-23 passing for 22 yards. Peabody threw for five TDs and found the likes of Hayden Murphy, James Burke and Dylan Morris wide open time and time again. Justus Chaffee scored the game’s final touchdown and Terrence Mudie went 7-8 kicking PATs.

BHS Stages Solid Performance in Scrimmage

Coast League powerhouse, simply did not have an answer for Barnstable’s spread offense, nor did it have an answer for junior Hayden Murphy when he stepped into Peabody’s slot at QB from the wide out slot. Friday night the season opens on the road at Durfee. Last year’s score: Barnstable 65, Durfee 0.
Last year’s season-opening rout versus Durfee set all types of new all-time records including Most points ever scored in a single game by the Red Raiders (65); Most points ever scored in the season opener (65), most touchdowns scored in a single game and Most PAT kicks in a single game (9, Tom Mullen).
